    "Christmas"

American Idol -- Kimberley Locke was one of the finalists in Season 2 of American Idol. She finished in third place, as Clay Aiken was the runner up, and Reuben Studdard was in first place. (Season 2 was definitely a great season for the show, as I had first started watching the show.) her debut album was released in 2004 (Only Love IN 2007, she released her second album, Based On A True Story. Also that year, her next album was Christmas. From that album, three songs were #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (singles) chart: "Up On The Housetop" (4 weeks), "Jingle Bells" (1 week), and "Frosty The Snowman" (1 week). She recorded on Randy Jackson's Dream Merchant 21 label. In 2011, she formed her own I AM Entertainment label, recorded a dance-themed EP. She has recorded songs with other artists, and released two albums for children. Her latest release is a Best Of, consisting of singles, two previously unreleased tracks, and two brand new recordings. She has also contributed to charities.

"We Need A Little Christmas" is the first track, and quite honetly, the previous (older) versions are better. However, "Frosty The Snowman" is a very well done version. (It was #1.) "Merry Christmas Darling" is really "Merry Christsmas Baby," and it is very soulful; a very good version by KL. "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" is quite jazzy. Although this song doesn't references to Christmas, it has been included on past Christmas albums by such artists as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Rod Stewart, Idina Menzel, to name a few. Ella Fitzgerald recorded the song for her Irvin Berlin Songbook album.

"Up On The Housetop" is another good version (it was also #1). "Away In A Manger" is beautiful, and Kimberley's voice almost resembles that of Whitney Houston. Wham! may just have the most popular version of "Last Christmas," yet Kimberley's version is just as good. It has a more R&B sound. Her version of "Jingle Bells" (another #1), will get your fingers snappin'. It's quite rockin'. "A Holly Jolly Christmas" has a reggae feel to it. "Mary, Did You Know" is another soulful sounding song, as heard in Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart." ("Mary, Did You KNow" was written by Mark Lowry, of the Gaither Vocal Band.) Beautiful and Whitney comparison has "Ave Maria."

Kimberley Locke's Christmas gives each song a good update. All the songs fit, and should get alot of plays for the Christmas season. She was from a great ensemble of finalists on American Idol, and her voice is exceptional on this Christmas album. Enjoy the Christmas holidays with updated Christmas music, with Kimberley Locke's Christmas album.
